Our Community

Over the years, what started as a small choir has got bigger and bigger, and has become a real community. Our choir has grown to over 185 members, and many friendships have been made.

We pride ourselves on building a community in our current internet age.

As an non-auditioning, inclusive choir we welcome everybody who wishes to join us.

Both the Brighton and Lewes choir welcomes all singers, and those who have never sung before, our ethos is building confidents and believing everyone can sing.

But don’t just take our word for it – here’s what some of our members had to say.

Reviews

‘‘Nothing but praise for the talent, organisation and enthusiasm of Steph and Kev who run the choir. It’s a welcoming space with a good contingent of the original Brighton members still in tact and a great range of people which says something about this community choir. Worth joining and taking part’’ - Hemantha

‘‘This choir is so much fun and good vibe couldn’t be a better name for it as that’s exactly what it is. Whilst it’s a non audition choir, I feel like my voice has really improved since I’ve joined’’ - Iris

‘‘This is a great social and fun choir.
Anyone can join, there are no auditions. It is led by Steph who is an accomplished singer, musician, and vocal coach, and supported by her husband Kev, who is a great guitarist’’ - John

Just started my third “term” at this choir and can’t get enough. The songs are surprisingly easy to learn (well, Steph and Kev make it easy!) and sound amazing when we all start singing together. Highly recommend!! - Katherine

What do we sing?

I use my experience as a professional vocal coach to pick songs that feel great to sing. Our choir members get a say in the setlist too – at the end of each term we invite song recommendations. I write all the arrangements myself, so everything we sing is original.

Our Brighton and Lewes choirs both learn the same setlist each term, allowing us to join together for some of our showcases to form an even bigger choir!

Our repertoire includes a large range of pop ‘classics’, old and new, from artists such as David Bowie, Beach Boys, Beyonce,  Bill Withers, Lady Gaga, Billy Joel, The Kinks, Stevie Wonder, Queen and so many more!

I personally have a soft spot for jazzy and bluesy numbers sung by artists such as Peggy Lee, Aretha Franklin or Nina Simone, and sometimes even soulful RnB like Alicia Keys and Lauryn Hill… But with so much great music to choose from these names are just the tip of the Iceberg!
